Fashion Forward: Kate Moss Gets Married in Galliano

It’s been rumored for a while now that Kate Moss would wed in Galliano. Well, the rumors are true! Kate married Jamie Hince in Southrop, England this afternoon. Although most of the fashion industry has shunned John Galliano after his racist remarks in a Paris cafe, Kate still had faith in him…at least enough to let him design her wedding dress. We were a little disappointed in the overall look though. We expected much more from such an iconic fashion figure but we didn’t hate new hubby Jamie’s suit by Yves Saint Lauren’s Stefano Pilati. See more wedding photos here.

Fakes are improving in quality. Although we don’t support fakes here at eDrop-Off (we guarantee the authenticity of everything we sell 100%…shameless plug), we found it interesting that counterfeiters are using higher quality materials to make fake bags. Unfortunately for those who like to buy second-hand, it’s becoming more difficult to spot the fake. This might help. (via The Cut)

Speaking of bags, did you know colorful clutches are so in right now? According to WhoWhatWear, and an array of celebrities and models, colorful clutches are the latest “microtrend” of the season. If you’re not familiar, think of it as a trend within a trend. Colorblocking was huge for Spring 2011 and these bright bags are an easy way to rock this trend. See, you learn something new everyday. Kate Middleton is in Canada. Perfect timing for Canada Day (which happens to be today). She stepped off the plane in Erdem yetsterday, and today is wearing the same Reiss dress she wore for her engagement photos. We’re surprised she would wear the same thing twice (at least within the same year) considering her every move is photographed. But who are we to judge? See the photos here. (via Fashionista)

Chanel’s Fall 2011 campaign was released yesterday…although some say it “was stolen.” Shot by Karl Lagerfeld himself and styled by ex-Vogue Paris editor Carine Roitfeld, this campaign is…intriguing. Coveted model Freja Beha Erichsen is dressed up as a cat in a photobooth, complete with 2 black Camellia flowers as ears. Don’t believe us? Check it out. (via Fashion Gone Rogue)

Donatella designed a pre-spring collection which will only be available in countries with H&M online sales starting January 19, 2012.

Coco Rocha says no to Photoshop. As part of a “no Photoshop” movement, Coco Rocha has agreed to star in Canadian designer Jacob’s Fall 2011 campaign completely untouched. Not like she needs it anyway but it’s the thought that counts, right? (via Modelina)

K-Mart is launching a new fashion initiative. Their new campaign features “real people” (mostly bloggers) wearing K-mart fashion. With a new message, a new logo and a new vibe, they hope to become more of a fashion destination. Their new tag line is “Money can’t buy style” which is technically true…but it can buy a stylist (via WWD)

Kate Middleton pays for her own clothes. Designers gift celebrities clothing and accessories all the time, but this is where Kate Middleton draws the line. She’s currently putting together a wardrobe for her 11 day trip to North America (which we hope consists of some fabulous headwear). She apparently will have some “private agreements” with designers but she  ”has a policy not to accept any free offers of clothing.” (via The Cut

Going bananas waiting for Rachel Zoe to come back on TV? You’re in luck…because season 4 of The Rachel Zoe Project debuts August 2 on Bravo. With 2 new men in the mix, and by that we mean baby Skyler and Brad’s replacement Jeremiah, we can’t wait to see what fashion dilemmas will hail upon camp Zoe this season. (via Huffington Post)

Speaking of Rachel Zoe, one of her ex-clients has been looking extra amazing lately but unfortunately for her it’s due to another stylist’s work. Liv Tyler has been killing it on the red carpet recently, and we discovered it’s because she’s been working with Annabel Tollman. Liv has even made an appearance on The Rachel Zoe Project in the past. And in all reality show/Bravo TV irony, Annabel will be staring in her own reality show on network this fall. (via Fashionista)

Fashion Forward: Rodarte Does Couture

Rodarte debuted a couture collection today for an installation at Pitti W in Florence. If you thought their ready-to-wear was showstopping, these pieces really take it to the next level. Constructed with stunning materials like feathers, gold lamé, Swarovski crystals, and sequins, this collection is true couture. Bad news for couture collectors though…after this exhibit the dresses will be donated to the  Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Can’t get enough of royal events? The Royal Ascot at Ascot Racecourse in England was this week and of course there were a ton of fabulous hats. Princess Beatrice probably won’t be auctioning this one for  $131,440 like she did for her royal wedding headpiece, but they’re all still pretty fun to look at. See part 1 and part 2 of Tom & Lorenzo’s Royal Ascot hat coverage for some ridiculous yet fabulous headwear (via Tom & Lorenzo)

Another eBay Fashion exclusive, the first Alexander Wang flash sale is occurring RIGHT NOW on eBay. There are 5 different Alexander Wang small leather goods being sold here and 2 have already sold out. So get your wallets ready (and get a new one while you’re at it) because these accessories are going fast! (via Refinery29)

Taylor Sterling of Sterling Style has launched a new website The Glitter Guide. Utilizing her blogging power and loyal following, Taylor has created a fashion/beauty/lifestyle website that has the blogosphere buzzing. According to the site, “ The Glitter Guide team aims to delight, inspire and ultimately make your life sparkle from the inside out.” Well that sounds lovely, sign us up!  (via Sweet Thing Blog)

Lanvin has released a children’s collection, Lanvin Petite, for Resort 2012. The collection consists of the designer house’s signature jewels, ballet flats, and girly tulle dresses. There are also four rag dolls Alber Elbaz designed where a part of the proceeds will go to Designing Hope, a humanitarian design firm charity. Let’s just say, we can see Katie Holmes buying the entire collection for Suri. (via Fashionista)

Fashion Forward: Rachel Zoe’s Fall Line At Neiman Marcus

Rachel Zoe’s first contemporary collection debuted last February during Fashion Week in New York. It was announced yesterday that her entire Fall line has been picked up nationwide by Neiman Marcus. This is almost unheard of for a full debut collection to be picked up by a such a large upscale retailer like Neimans. The Rachel Zoe line will also be available at Shopbop, Nordstrom, Saks, Intermix, Kirna Zabete and Selfridges. The clothes hit stores this July and prices range from $250-$700. Will you be shutting it down in the Rachel Zoe collection this Fall?

Moda Operandi seeks additional funding. The flash sale site Moda Operandi, where nothing is actually on sale, launched during Fashion Week in February with the help of Boston-based venture capital firm New Atlantic Ventures. They are now looking for their second round of funding with hopes of reaching 100,00 members by the end of the year. Having to apply to be a member, and currently having only 15,000 members, maybe they should ease up their application process first. (via Reuters)

Tiffany & Co. partners with the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. As part of a 3 year partnership, Tiffany & Co. has donated $1 million to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund which will include $250,000 worth of business funding for one lucky jewelry designer. Applicants are reviewed by a knowledgable panel of judges, including the one and only Anna Wintour. The winner will be announced this summer. Finalists for this opportunity in the past include Jason Wu, Alexander Wang, and Rodarte to name a few. Basically, we have really high hopes for this jewelry designer. (via The Cut)

Balmain is launching a diffusion line. It’s been less than a month since it was announced that Olivier Rousteing would be replacing Christophe Decarnin as creative director, and they’re already set for a difussion line to launch this September. The line will be called “Pierre Balmain” after the label’s founder who started the fashion house in 1945. This collection will be designed by a separate creative team and will cater to both men and women. So does a Balmain diffusion line mean $5,000 for a jacket instead of $10,000? (via Telegraph UK)

No one bought Lady Gaga’s Mugler dress. Last week, Gilt Groupe held a Lady Gaga themed sale which included the famous white dress she wore for the Mugler show in Paris. Gilt is known for their flash discount sales, however this specific dress was being sold for $20,000 (not exactly Gilt’s demographic). Although the dress was in and out of members’ carts throughout the day, the dress went unsold. Where will the Mugler dress go next? (via The Cut)

Fashion Forward: Prada Goes Public

It was announced today that Prada has been given the go-ahead to be listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. This is expected to happen at the end of June, where Prada will reportedly sell a 20 percent stake in the company. Currently, the business is 95% owned by Miuccia Prada herself along with other family members. After having record-breaking year in sales (possibly due to the fabulous banana skirts and Baroque sunglasses for Spring 2011), this was the right move for Prada at this time.

Prabal Gurung’s collection for J. Crew went on sale this week. The collaboration consists of Prabal’s signature silhouettes with a minimalist J. Crew twist. Garments range from $198 to $400 and are available at J. Crew stores and online. Let’s just say, if you like bows you’ll LOVE this collection. (via Fashionista)

Hailee Steinfeld is the new face of Miu Miu. After capturing the attention of millions in that Prada Spring ’11 bubble gum striped dress at the 2011 SAG Awards, she was invited to the designer’s sister brand, Miu Miu’s, Fall 2011 show. She’s showed up on numerous red carpets in Miu Miu since then. So why not just make her the face of the brand, right? (via Style.com)

Want a piece of the Royal Wedding? Princess Beatrice is auctioning off her Philip Treacy hat for charity on eBay. Currently it’s at over $89,000 USD and there’s til over one day left. If you have a TON of cash to spare, and need a new hat, I suggest you start bidding. (via Huffington Post)

It’s been reported that the toucan brooch in Iris Apfel’s collection for HSN is a close replica of a Hanna Bernhard toucan brooch. Everyone loves Iris so it’s not easy to point fingers, but the brooch does look strikingly similar. We’re not sure…you make the call. (via Refinery29)

Fashion Forward: Kate Middleton Wears Sarah Burton For McQueen

As you all probably know by now, the Royal Wedding was today and rumors were true; Kate Middleton wore Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Some details we learned about the dress include:

  • The lace flowers on the bodice and skirt were handmade individually using a nineteenth-century Irish technique called Carrickmacross.
  • The train was approximately 8.85 feet long.
  • The dress was made out of ivory and white satin gazar fabric.

All we know is that she looked stunning and extremely happy…and we are so glad she decided to work with Sarah Burton on her wedding dress.

Celine will open two flagship stores this Fall in two of the major fashion capitals, New York City and Paris. With the increased popularity in minimalism, the basis of Celine’s aesthetic, the brand has grown tremendously in the last year. Since our obsession with the Nano (which happens to look like a mini Boston bag), we can’t wait for more Celine exposure in the US. (via WWD)

Olivier Rousteing confirmed as new designer at Balmain. After Christophe Decarnin’s sudden departure earlier this month, his replacement was completely up in the air. Roustenig was Decarnin’s “right hand man” at Balmain since 2009, and spent five years at Roberto Cavalli prior, so we have high hopes for Olivier. We will see come Fashion Week this September! (via Fashionista)

Nicole Richie will dress Britt Maren for the Costume Institute Gala. A highly anticipated event, especially for those who love avant garde fashion, Richie is expected to dress Maren in a Winter Kate gown. We think of Winter Kate as boho chic casual tops and flowy dresses so we’re interested to see how this plays out for a black tie affair. (via Styleite)

Kate Hudson is collaborating with Chrome Hearts on a jewelry collection, called CH + KH. This is Kate’s first venture in design and happens to be Chrome Hearts’ first celebrity collaboration. The line will consist of bohemian pieces with 18k and 22k gold set with white diamonds. CH + KH will launch late summer in Chrome Hearts stores. We wonder if Rachel Zoe will have an influence on Kate’s design choices? (via WWD)
