Yesterday morning, the School of Art Institute Chicago fashion students presented their individual collections, with three shows to follow throughout the day. This is the first year the showing was viewed in a large tent set up in Millennium Park.
Each class had guidelines and garment limitations to follow. Sophomores showed one look in gray-scale, juniors created three looks, and seniors presented a fuller line of six outfits. As a result, the sophomore garments were more dramatic with exaggerated silhouettes and trims. The junior collections lended more of an individual voice with lots of print mixes and bold colors. The seniors showed more polished, imaginative, and completed pieces that tended to tell more of a complete story.
The last showing of the night presented by Swarovski was The Walk, where iconic Chicago boutique owner Ikram Goldman was given the 2011 SAIC Legend of Fashion Award.
